Our History

Boldly Gold Foundation History

2015

Mason's Cancer Journey

At just 15 months old, Mason was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) and underwent six months of inpatient chemotherapy at Inova Children's Hospital. During that difficult season, our family experienced firsthand the challenges of childhood cancer while witnessing the extraordinary compassion of the doctors, nurses, hospital staff, volunteers, and families who walked beside us. Mason's courage inspired us to give back so that other families would know they are not alone.

2016

100 Miles for Childhood Cancer

Our first fundraising initiative combined our love of running with a desire to give back. What began as one family's effort to support children battling childhood cancer became the first step toward Boldly Gold Foundation.

2018

The First See Mason Run 5K

We hosted the inaugural See Mason Run 5K, bringing our community together to celebrate survivors, honor those we've lost, and raise awareness for childhood cancer. Today, it remains our signature fundraising event.

April 23, 2019

Boldly Gold Foundation is Founded

Boldly Gold Foundation was officially incorporated, transforming one family's journey into a lasting mission to bring hope and support to children and families facing childhood cancer.

2020

Rising to the Challenge

When the COVID-19 pandemic changed the way communities gathered, Boldly Gold adapted by transitioning fundraising efforts to virtual events. Although our events looked different, our commitment to children and families never changed.

2021–2024

Growing Our Impact

As in-person events returned, the See Mason Run 5K continued to grow through the dedication of our volunteers, sponsors, donors, participants, and community partners. Together, we expanded our reach while raising awareness for childhood cancer throughout our community.

2025

A Decade of Hope

In 2025, Mason celebrated an incredible milestone—10 years in remission. His journey continues to inspire our mission and reminds us why Boldly Gold exists. The same year, the foundation surpassed $71,000 in donations supporting children and families impacted by childhood cancer.

Our Story Continues

Every milestone in our history has been made possible by the generosity of volunteers, sponsors, donors, participants, and supporters who believe every child deserves hope. As Boldly Gold continues to grow, we remain committed to honoring Mason's journey by creating brighter days for children and families facing childhood cancer.
